Fernando Lolas Stepke is a psychiatrist from the University of Chile; He has a degree in Psychosomatic Medicine from the University of Heidelberg (Germany); He has a postdoctoral Fellow for research in neurosciences from the National Institute of Health (NIH), and is an honorary doctor from different universities (San Marcos de Lima, Peru; Córdoba, Argentina; Cuyo, Argentina; Ricardo Palma , Peru, and Vales de Jequitinonha and Mucurí, both in Brazil).

Throughout his professional career he has been a professor at the University of Chile; director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics Studies and the Global Ethics Program of the Institute of International Studies of the University of Chile; member of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee; member of the Ethics Committee of the World Psychiatric Association and the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry; director of the magazine Acta Bioethica, and editor of numerous periodicals in English, Portuguese and Spanish. He is the author of over 400 journal articles.
