Paulina Tindana, PhD

Dr. Paulina Tindana is Senior Lecturer and Bioethicist in the Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management; School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences. University of Ghana. Previous to this appointment, Dr. Tindana served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Navrongo Health Research Centre [NHRC].  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana in 1999, Master of Health Sciences (Bioethics) degree from the University of Toronto, Canada in 2004 and a DPhil at the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford, UK in 2013.

Her research career started in 1995 when she joined the NHRC as a fieldworker on the Malaria Attack Rate Study and the Malaria Home Management Study. Over the years, her research work has involved conducting empirical research on issues related to informed consent, and community engagement in health research, adolescent reproductive health issues, drug advertisements on health seeking behaviour and health systems research. She has also been involved in a number of capacity strengthening initiatives for research ethics committees and health researchers in Ghana and other parts of Africa. She has also served as a tutor in a number of research ethics courses at the University of Ghana, University of Oxford and the University of Copenhagen.

Her main research interests lie in understanding the ethical dimensions of international collaborative research, particularly the practical ethical issues arising in genetic/genomic research, informed consent, ethics review, community engagement strategies in global health research and health systems research ethics. She has over 20 publications in peer reviewed journals and chapters in books.
