Joseph G. Trainor is a Delaware Valley financial executive with extensive for-profit and not-for-profit experience. He began his career began in public accounting with Deloitte where he oversaw a diverse client base of manufacturing, public utility and not-for-profit in PA and NJ. He then left public accounting to oversee accounting and procedures for a Philadelphia financial institution. From there, he was recruited into Higher Ed where he oversaw various financial and administrative departments. Now, he is applying his accounting, financial and research expertise as The Wistar Institute’s Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. Wistar is a 126 year old, NCI designated basic biomedical research institution. Wistar’s exemplary research was recognized by the NCI in 2019 when NCI awarded Wistar the rank of “Exceptional” (the highest score possible) for the second straight evaluation cycle.
From a civic perspective, Mr. Trainor is a founding trustee and treasurer for the University City District in Philadelphia. The UCD is a special services district, which advances the quality of life for the community that lives, studies, seeks health care and works in University City. It accomplishes this goal through its cleaning, marketing, safety and training programs.
Personally, he is married and his wife, Vonda, is from Western Canada. Professionally, she is senior resources center administrator for Phoenixville Hospital and also has a private massage therapy business. They also have two sons, Tom and Mike, two dogs and two geckos.
